Louise Bourgeois Nature Study: Drypoint etching workshop at Compton Verney
July 2024

image00033.jpeg

What a fantastic day of creativity at the drypoint etching and mark making workshop at Compton Verney. We were so excited when we were invited in again to host a workshops and even more excited when we knew it was in response to the amazing work of prolific artist Louise Bourgeois. We start the day with a guided walk around the current exhibition of Bourgeois work, before heading outside to sketch the giant spider. We use large sticks and ink to give participants the chance to free themselves up a little and be more expressive with their mark making. Encouraging more creativity and a loose way of working before the more detailed and intricate work. After lunch we then scaled down the sizing and started to look at the more detailed sketching for the prep work for their etchings. The work produced was really creative and with many different styles. We used disused metal coke cans as the etching plates and discussed with the group the importance of being as considerate with our materials as we can in this process heavy medium. it was a really lovely day and the work produced was outstanding. well done to all participants.

June 2024

image00007 (3).jpeg

The pinhole camera building and image making workshop was so much fun. Working with the Herbert gallery again and with a very enthusiastic and creative bunch of participants. We spent the morning making our coffee can cameras and getting them light tight and ready for action. Once we had done this, we headed outside to capture our images onto our photographic negatives on light sensitive photographic paper , inserted inside the cameras. Then it was time the magic. Using our specially made mini transportable darkrooms, the participants tried their hand at darkroom printing. the images made were fantastic and all participants created some amazing images. well done all.

We had such a great time with the year 10 art students from Ash green school in Coventry, over our two day art workshop residency at the Herbert gallery. We were invited in to work as artist in residence on a mixed print making project all based around nature and the macro and microscopic world. Over the two days we worked along side the students to produce some amazing dry points and collagraph prints. The students learnt about drawing, photography, mark making, etching, building up layers on plates and the printing process. they work extremely hard and produced some beautiful final outcomes. great work to all of the students and staff.

Big Draw: Drawing with Senses
at Compton Verney
14-15th October

We had a fantastic weekend at Compton Verney hosting our two day workshop. As part of the Big Draw, drawing with senses event. We took over the whole of the education centre to build four different rooms that celebrated the senses of sight, sound, touch and smell.

From moving projections and sounds of nature to a room filled with amazing aromas and smells. A room full of items to touch with textures and tactile objects. It was a sensory exploration that invited participants to get really experimental in their mark making and drawing. All work produced was then added to our giant moving installation and exhibition. It was our biggest event this year and such a fantastic experience. Thank you so much to Compton Verney for hosting and to all participants that joined us, you were amazing!
